SEO Company: Optimizing Your Website for Search Engines

Do not automatically redirect users to another site. Search engines see this as a malicious practice. Even if you honestly want to connect users to a new domain, it will still look as though you are trying to cheat the search engine and any SEO company can attest to this. Instead, provide links to the new content and encourage visitors to click through to the main webpage.

Use outside resources to track your rank. This may seem like a simple thing to do on your own, but your rankings on the search engines change constantly. Using an outside resource usually means they will keep track of your rankings for a few hours or days, and report back to you where your average sits.

Stay ethical. Many websites use what is called "Black Hat" tactics, meaning they use unethical practices to hop their sites up on search lists. These include keyword stuffing, "Doorway pages", and many others something any SEO company will always advice against. Stay away from these, because if a search engine realizes you are using them, they will likely ban your site from their pages.

Plan your website so that the structure is clean and you avoid going too deeply into directories. Every page you write for your website should be no more than three clicks away from the homepage. People, and search engines, like to find the information they are looking for, quickly and easily.

While getting noticed by search engines is exactly what you want to do, remember that your main goal should be to attract new readers, not search engines. Keep your content relevant to the interests of those visiting your site, and word of mouth may help you as well, as any quality SEO company would say. Search engines are great, but don't expect them to do all the work for you!

To optimize your website for search engines, always use a unique internet protocol address. When your website shares an IP address with another website, if that other website breaks the terms and conditions of a search engine and is de-indexed  from search results, all of your website's pages will also be de-indexed.
Stay far away from PDF files. If a website uses PDFs, it is basically taking a very large shortcut. This is a sign of a poorly managed website, and search engines view it as such. You do not want to be seen as lazy and therefore ranked poorly by the search engines, so do not use PDFs, something you can confirm with your SEO company.

This seems basic, but a good practice to follow is to constantly monitor your page rank using independent traffic monitoring services. Doing so will help you determine whether your optimization is having any effect on your site traffic. A good site to use is Alexa, which will show an abundance of useful statistics.

Make your keywords longer to gain a more targeted audience. While a shorter keyword will attract more readers overall, gaining a targeted audience can be a challenge. Using a longer keyword allows only those that search for your specifics to find you, giving you a better chance of marketing to a more targeted and direct audience, a culture a good SEO company always advocates for.
